Are those children I hear
Playing in the sun?
Laughing, running, being kids
Until the day is done?

Are they reading stories?
Are they singing songs?
Are there hands filled with crayons
Coloring all day long?

Is that a boy I see?
Walking with his dad?
Hand in hand they talked for hours
What a time they had.

And over there, is that a girl
Sitting with her mom?
Sharing what she wants to be someday
Trying jewelry on?

Oh how I wish my mommy
Would have given me the chance,
To sing, laugh and run around
To jump, be free and dance.

But I guess that I came too soon
The timing wasn’t right
Mommy and daddy had only just met
And money was a little tight

I remember how excited I was,
To come into this world.
I know I would have done great things
My dreams and goals unfurled.

I would have walked the dog you know
Helped around the house
And when the day came to an end
I would fall asleep on mommy’s blouse

I would watch my daddy
Working on his car
And when he needed another tool
You know I would not be far.

I would have a real neat bike
To ride with all my friends
I would ride it all day long
Until the day would end.

When the day was over
And it was time to go to sleep
Mommy and daddy would kiss me goodnight
I would pray my soul to keep

But I guess I’ll never see these things
The timing wasn’t right
Mommy and daddy had only just met
And money was a little tight

So now I watch from heaven
Waiting for the day
When mommy and daddy will join me
And we can run and play

If I could have one wish
My one wish would be
That I could hug my mommy and daddy just once
So they could see the love in me.
